Job Description / Primary Objective * |
The City of Los Angeles is conducting a national search for a dynamic, innovative, and collaborative change agent to lead the City’s Bureau of Street Services as its Director. Overseeing an annual budget of approximately $200 million plus an additional $100 million in grant-funded projects along with more than 1,300 employees represented by 19 different labor unions, the Director is the City’s street expert - determining how LA streets are repaired, reconstructed, and rehabilitated on a continuing basis. This executive will manage a vast street and public right-of-way program with a focus on data-driven problem-solving, transparency, accountability, efficiency, and admirable customer service provision.

Requirements (Education, Level of Experience, etc.) * |
Requires a Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of managerial experience in a public agency or private sector firm with demonstrated leadership and oversight of financial, budgetary, and technical aspects commensurate with running a robust public works department with a strong customer service and constituent engagement focus. Additionally, experience managing media relations, providing public presentations, and operating under public scrutiny is essential. A Master’s degree is considered a plus.
