The Division of Transportation Operations is responsible for maintaining and operating transportation infrastructure. Sections within the Division include curbside management, traffic signals, signs and markings, system operations, and managing the street lighting franchise agreement.
The Systems Operations team is responsible for the design, installation, and operation of the City’s transportation technologies, operations, maintenance and build-out of the fiber network; and coordination with other agencies to facilitate transportation projects.
The System Operations team is seeking a full-time Senior Engineer to work with an experienced transportation technologies team. This is a diverse group that consists of engineers and technicians. It’s a great opportunity to work with IoT Devices projects. In addition, as a Senior Engineer you will work with the Denver Traffic Management Center.
Job duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
•Supervises between three to five employees as a team lead for TMC operational staff, coordinates with maintenance shop staff, and field technicians with operational issues, keeps team member focused on tasks and assignments, and allocates resources effectively
•Perform full performance professional level engineering work on a variety of IoT device installation projects and assignments from inception to completion, which includes reviewing installation plans and designs, providing technical engineering oversight and guidance, coordinating project phases, and recommends solutions to complex engineering issues and problems
•Work with stakeholders both internal and external to the city, which includes working with intergovernmental organizations, interacting with utility companies, other city agencies and departments, and works with consultants and contractors
•Prepare project bid materials and cost estimates, which includes evaluating bid qualifications and proposals, and works with stakeholders on project designs, concepts, and timeframes for project completion
•Acts as a team lead on projects and assignments, coordinates the work for contractors and consultants, assists inspectors with difficult or unusual code compliance issues, keeps team member focused on tasks and assignments, and allocates resources effectively
•Prepare project budgets in the planning and design phase, determine work plans and schedules, monitors project budgets and expenditures throughout construction, and ensure project deliverables stay on-time and target, ensure quality control, and the project stays on budget
•Design complex right-of-way traffic control systems and reviews roadway construction project plans that impact signs, markings, streetlights, and traffic signals to ensure compliance with traffic control device requirements

•Experience supervising and mentoring staff
•Strong leadership aptitude, with the ability to encourage, motivate, inspire and challenge a team
•Traffic signal operational experience
•Project engineering management and project delivery experience
•Traffic IoT experience
•Familiarity with traffic central systems, traffic signal controllers, and data management

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
Experience: Three (3) years of professional engineering work experience after obtaining a Professional Engineering (PE) license
Licensures / Certifications: requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.
Requires registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) by the Colorado State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers at the time of application
Or requires registration as an Architect by the Colorado State Board of Registration at the time of application
Registration in another state will be accepted in lieu of this requirement, provided that the applicant has Colorado registration at completion of probation
Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment
Education/Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted
