      The Project Delivery Administration – Environmental Implementation Division is currently hiring two Staff Engineers. These positions will be part of a larger 40-person team working with engineers, project managers, inspectors, and business administrators. Our team is split into three divisions, each focusing on the planning, design, and construction of primarily stormwater related improvements. One of these positions will be assigned to the Construction Department, focusing on the delivery of Capital Improvements, and one will be assigned to the Design group, focusing on the coordination, engineering, and design of major Capital Improvement projects. 
       
      As a Staff Engineer your duties will include: 
       
      Staff Engineer - Construction: 
       
      Assist Project Manager with management of ongoing construction projects, including submittal review, RFI review and response, contractor coordination, and more 
       
      Help review plans for constructability 
       
      Help coordinate stakeholder interactions 
       
      Construction Observation and Inspection 
       
      Assist the Project Manager in managing budgets and building to details and specifications 
       
      Work with entities both inside and outside the city for coordination of construction projects 
       
      Balance time to support functions, help the team with construction related issues and other duties assigned to support the team 
       
      Assist senior staff with various engineering and construction management duties 
       
      Staff Engineer – Design 
       
      Regularly attend design and construction meetings to guide and support multiple disciplines, entities, and stakeholders 
       
      Assist in reviewing design plans and reports (drainage, Geotech, environmental, etc.), as well as coordinating reviews and associated comments with other departments 
       
      Perform cost estimating, scheduling, and specification preparation for CIP bid advertisements 
       
      Prepare drainage and sanitary designs and reports, as well as construction plans, for smaller City projects 
       
      Track funding with design and construction budgets 
       
      In addition, job duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: 
       
      Performs entry-level engineering work on small routine projects or parts of large projects under the direction of a licensed engineer 
       
      Learns the processes, practices, and applications of design and construction project management and the principles, standards, requirements, and guidelines for plans review 
       
      Trains and assists in the preparation of pre-bid materials defining scope of work and related information necessary for Request for Proposal (RFP), provides background information to design and/or engineering consultants and construction contractors, and responds to questions concerning the project 
       
      Trains and becomes proficient in reviewing specifications for small projects or parts of large projects and monitoring construction projects of limited scope for compliance with design guidelines, requirements, and standards 
       
      Reviews plans for new construction, alterations, and repair for compliance on code conformance with city codes, requirements, ordinances, and national standards 
       
      Meets with contract personnel, citizen/neighborhood groups, and other city staff to resolve problems and concerns and answer questions on non-controversial issues/projects 
       
      Assists with field inspections of projects for conformance to approved plans 
       
      Trains in the formulation and monitoring of budgets for projects including planning, design, regulatory, and construction phases 
       
      Performs increasingly more responsible work as the employee gains experience and independently performs engineering duties

      | Requirements (Education, Level of Experience, etc.)  | 
      About You 
      Our ideal candidate will have: 
       
      A degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in water resources with 0-2 years of experience 
       
      Some engineer experience working on heavy civil construction projects. Some experience working on storm, sanitary, and water quality projects with the City and County of Denver, equivalent municipality, or with a private consultant 
       
      Additional background in multi-disciplinary projects is highly desirable: roadway improvements, signal reconstruction, bike lanes, multiuse paths, grading/erosion control and utility relocations. 
       
      Strong communication and collaboration skills which strengthens relationships with inspectors, contractors, utility owners, residents, business owners, neighborhood organizations and elected officials. 
       
      Experience working with diverse groups of stakeholders and the public through community engagement is important. 
       
      Computer skills should include MS Office, ArcMap, AutoCAD Civil 3D, CUHP/SWMM and FLO2D.

      License/Certifications: Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application. 
       
      Registration as an Engineer Intern issued by the Colorado State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers at the time of application. 
       
      Registration in another state will be accepted in lieu of this requirement, provided that the applicant has Colorado registration at completion of probation. 
       
      Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
